Famous for its rich pastures and wonderful food, the great River Seine meanders through Normandy to Paris through the departements of Calvados, Manche, Orne, Eure & Seine-Maritime.
From Le Treport to the Mont-Saint-Michel, the Normandy coast offers every type of landscape: cliffs hollowed out by the sea at Etretat, golden sand as at Deauville and the 1940 Invasion Beaches. The many fortified towns and castles along its course rich in history and lore will never tire the traveller. Examples of Normandy architecture can be found throughout the region, through its castles, cathedrals, chateaux and quaint country houses.
The region is an important place for French sacred architecture with the cathedrals of Rouen, Bayeux, Coutances, Sees and Evreux and the 'Merveille' of the Mont-Saint-Michel. It also has numerous excellent gardens open to the public, including Monet's garden which is not only the second most visited garden in France, but a must for art students of the great impressionist who so famously painted this region
