From North to South the departments of Ardennes, Aube, Marne, Haute-Marne are dotted with woodlands, lakes and vineyard. This is a region with many great lakes - eight in all! The Lac du Der-Chantecoq is 12,300 acres in size and the lake in the Foret d'Orient has a bird sanctuary noted for its waterfowl.
However, in addition to the natural beauties and vast horizons, there are architectural treasures embodying a rich historical and cultural tradition. The famous Gothic cathedral of Rheims; The Place Ducale at Charleville-Mezieres; the old streets of Troyes; the ramparts at Langres are all worth visiting.
