TAKE YOUR DOG ON HOLIDAY WITH YOU TO FRANCE

You would not expect to leave a child behind when you go on holiday so why 'one of your most loyal friends'?

With the introduction of Pet Passports it is now easy to take your pet and, with the increasing cost of kennels, it has also become cheaper to take them with you.

At FranceWithUs.net we encourage you to take your 'best friend' with you and you can now search for all those properties that allow dogs. Just search as normal for properties with the appropriate number of bedrooms and region you wish to visit and then use the 'Refine your Search' link (RHS blue link). Then click the box for 'Dogs Accepted' under General Facilities and all properties that accept dogs will appear (the icon is as above).

Most of these properties are larger with gardens but we do have some smaller properties. Some houses also limit the number of dogs and charge for extra cleaning but many are completely free. We would recommend you make sure you are clear of any extra charges before booking.

If you cannot find what you want you can try one of our partners - Maps4Pets.com which has a massive range of information on taking your pet abroad including information on dog shows and hotels that welcome you and your pet.

For full details about taking your pet on holiday from the UK call the UK Government Pet Helpline on 0870 241 1710 (+44 (0)870 241 1710 if in France) on Monday to Friday - 8.30am to 5.00pm UK time or go to DEFRA's Animal Health and Quarantine section on www.defra.gov.uk
This site explains what you have to do to bring your pet dog or cat into (or back into) the UK through the Pet Travel Scheme (or PETS for short) without putting it into quarantine. This site also tells you about quarantine in the UK for animals that don’t qualify for PETS plus EU Regulation on the movement of pet animals.

Before travelling abroad with your dog please remember you must:
1) Check that the microchip can be read before you go.
2) Make sure that your pet’s paperwork is in order.
3) Obtain the Dog and Cat Travel And Risk Information (DACTARI). This is a scheme to find out about the occurrence of exotic diseases in dogs and cats in Great Britain.
4) Check for extra charges with the travel operators.
